Packing your hospital bag
The countdown has begun and its time to pack. Whilst sadly you’re not going on holiday (it may be a few months before that!), packing your hospital bag isn’t as simple as packing for an overnight stay, it pays to give it some thought and consideration to make your birthing experience more comfortable and dare we say it enjoyable. We recommend you start packing your hospital bag three or four weeks before your due date in case of any early arrivals. Another little tip for you is get your partner to pack for hospital with you so they know where to find everything!
For you
First up is nightwear for you, we recommend a comfortable soft stretchy breathable cotton nightie along with a thin dressing gown as a cover up. Colour is a personal preference, some women prefer dark colours for practical reasons and to avoid showing up any leaks or stains whilst other mothers to be prefer prettier styles for photographs. Slippers are a must too for walking around the hospital, some people prefer disposable if you don’t think you will want to use them again once home.

Toiletries
As well as your usual toiletries, we recommend adding a few specific additional items to your hospital bag. To help give your breastfeeding journey the best start, we recommend taking the below to hospital:
You won’t want to take your favourite underwear with you to hospital as most women bleed for several weeks post birth. We recommend either disposable knickers or wearing large dark knickers with pads.
A device that can help with mild pain relief in the early stages of labour is a tens machine. If you haven’t used one before we suggest familiarising yourself with how it works before you go into labour!
