Choosing a pushchair
Buying a pushchair is a hard decision. Not only is it likely to be the most expensive item youll buy for your baby but will almost become a lifeline for you which enables you to travel around with your new family addition. Here at Tinies we know how overwhelming it can be to choose the right one so we have created a guide to help you along your way.
First things first, lets take a look at the different terminology. The term pram, pushchair and stroller are used interchangeably and so often gets confusing.
Pram - this is what you traditionally think of as a carrycot with wheels which allows your baby to lie flat on their back. They are designed to travel around with a newborn until they are six months old ( or until they start to sit up) therefore they don’t offer much longevity.
Pushchair - Nowadays the most popular option is a pushchair as they can adapt between having a carrycot for newborns but then have seat options which can be used from 6 months old meaning they can be used for several years.
Stroller - These tend to have a lightweight and compact frame designed specifically for travelling and city living. Many compact strollers now have the option of a newborn carrycot to allow parents to use them from birth.
Travel system - this is a pushchair that is also compatible with carrying a bassinet and also an infant carrier car seat making travelling in the car more convenient.
Doubles - Several pushchairs have the versatility to add another seat on to convert it into a double making it easy and cost effective for growing families.
Things to consider when choosing your pushchair:
Lifestyle - do you live in a city or a more rural area? Will you be using public transport regularly or a car? Your lifestyle is the number one factor in deciding what type of pushchair to buy
Budget - pushchairs are an investment so its important to consider how much you are willing to pay to start with and also make sure you consider what add ons you may or may not need to buy across each style before making your final decision
Family size - do you plan to expand your family quite quickly? If so it may be worth considering buying one where you can add attachments that convert it into a double.
Practicalities - This goes hand in hand with lifestyle and important to consider factories such as how the pushchair folds down, do they handles adjust ( especially important for tall parents) and how big is the basket size.
